Statement from Texas Farm Bureau President Kenneth Dierschke on the House passage of the farm bill:

“The U.S. House of Representatives is moving forward with legislation that helps ensure a safety net for American farmers and ranchers in years to come. In an effort to get a bill to the president’s desk before the current bill extension expires, lawmakers split authorization for nutrition programs from agricultural and conservation programs.

Texas Farm Bureau supported the passage of HR 2642.  We did not support the process by which this bill came to the floor today, but understand the House leadership determined the only way forward at this time is to handle the titles separately.  Farmers and ranchers need the certainty of a five-year farm bill and passage of HR 2642 today can get us closer to that goal.”
