Texas Farm Bureau statement on improved availability of dicamba for Texas cotton farmers

The following statement may be attributed to Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening:

"Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) is very pleased the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has provided flexibility for Texas farmers by extending the use of dicamba on cotton up to 90 days from planting, instead of the standard 60 days.

"In March, TFB members met with representatives of EPA and discussed the need for additional days to apply dicamba to dicamba-tolerant cotton. It is clear that our concerns were heard.

"We appreciate EPA for listening to our members and for the agency’s approval of the Special Local Needs Labels submitted in April by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The announcement is welcome news for Texas cotton growers.

"The Special Local Needs Labels will allow cotton growers to account for any delay in emergence by not having their application window reduced, as well as allowing them to manage mid-season weed flushes."
