YOUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE

Veterans are heroes among us

Valiant. Loyal. Patriotic. America’s veterans—and there are about 18 million—are our heroes.

Those brave men and women are committed to protecting our country and ensuring our freedom. Today, on Veterans Day, we pause to pay tribute to all American veterans—living or dead.

Veterans Day originated as Armistace Day on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I.

The courageous men and women who serve and protect our country come from all walks of life. They’re our friends, neighbors and coworkers. They are parents, children and grandparents. Many are farmers and ranchers.

As those veterans of the U.S. armed forces return to civilian life, many call rural America home. The 2018 Farm Bill provides financial and risk management support to those veterans.

It’s easy to take national security for granted, but we are the land of the free because of the brave.

The preceding commentary is brought to you by Texas Farm Bureau, the “Voice of Texas Agriculture.” Called “Your Texas Agriculture Minute,” TFB will issue thought-provoking editorials each week—via print and audio—to spark understanding of agriculture in the Lone Star State and its impact on each and every Texan.
