YOUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE

YOUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE

Career opportunities? Go agriculture.

By Gene Hall

Ag careers are more than plowing and planting. A cornucopia of job opportunities grows way beyond the farm gate to agriculture-related science, technology and math. We call them STEM fields.

Numbers don’t lie. A new report is five for five–5 percent growth in STEM employment opportunities over the next five years. That means 33,100 new jobs.

That doesn't count the 160,000 STEM workers who are 55 and older and due to retire soon. Many of these jobs are recession proof. They do not decline when the economy lags.

The future looks bright indeed.

The world population is booming. Beating hunger will take a whole new generation of scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs.

Challenges are huge. Opportunities limitless.

Make a real impact. Make a real difference. Build a great career.

Go Ag.

The preceding commentary is brought to you by Texas Farm Bureau, the “Voice of Texas Agriculture.” Called “Your Texas Agriculture Minute,” TFB will issue thought-provoking editorials each week—via print and audio—to spark understanding of agriculture in the Lone Star State and its impact on each and every Texan.
