Texas Farm Bureau honors 2025 media award winners

 

(ARLINGTON, Texas)—Two media professionals earned recognition from Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) for telling the story of Texas farmers and ranchers and highlighting the issues rural communities face.

Each year, superior agricultural journalism is recognized by the largest general farm and ranch organization in Texas. This year, awards were given in two categories: Excellence in Journalism Award for markets less than 50,000 population and Excellence in Journalism Award for markets more than 50,000 population.

“Sharing the story of Texas agriculture is vital, and we’re proud to recognize these media professionals for their coverage of our state’s farmers and ranchers,” TFB President Russell Boening said. “Their work helps Texans better understand not only the people behind agriculture, but also the challenges farmers face like water availability, weather, labor shortages and burdensome regulations.”

Excellence in Journalism – Markets of Less Than 50,000
Joe Davis, owner and operator of Davis Broadcast Co., Inc. in Memphis and KEFH-FM and KLSR-FM, was awarded the Excellence in Journalism Award for markets less than 50,000 population.

Hall-Donley County Farm Bureau nominated Davis for his passion for covering agricultural news from Amarillo to Wichita Falls.

“For over 40 years, Joe Davis has tirelessly promoted the Rolling Plains, an area diverse in its landscape, people and agriculture,” Mat Montgomery, Hall-Donley County Farm Bureau president, said in the nomination form. “Hall-Donley County Farm Bureau thanks Joe for honoring those who work in agriculture every day, whether it be in his interviews, the shows he airs or even the music he plays.”

Excellence in Journalism – Markets of More Than 50,000
Michael Board, anchor/reporter of News Radio 1200 WOAI-AM in San Antonio, was awarded the Excellence in Journalism Award for markets more than 50,000 population.

Wilson County Farm Bureau nominated Board for his coverage of local and state agricultural news and his dedication to tell the stories of Texas agriculture.

“Michael has brought attention to issues Texas farmers and ranchers face by often featuring Texas Farm Bureau sources and reports,” Milton J. Lowak, Wilson County Farm Bureau president, said in the nomination form. “His work for WOAI-AM also airs on other iHeart radio stations across the state, which brings coverage to his reports well beyond South Texas.”
