Texas Farm Bureau calls on Congress to include economic assistance in spending package
The following statement may be attributed to Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening on the immediate need for economic assistance for farmers:
“Texas Farm Bureau is urgently calling on congressional leaders to include meaningful assistance in the upcoming spending package for farm families facing a deepening economic crisis.
“Recent support provided by the administration and Congress is greatly appreciated, but farmers are experiencing financial strain we haven’t seen in decades.
“New American Farm Bureau Federation analysis shows farmers are not out of the woods, and another difficult year is likely without improved markets. Congress must act now to help bridge this economic crisis in agriculture, or we will see more bankruptcies, faster consolidation and greater risks to national food security.
“For months, essential farm assistance was expected to be part of this funding package. Seeing proposed bill text without this key priority is alarming.
“There is still time for Congress to act, but inaction leaves farmers vulnerable to costs and markets they cannot control and weakens the food security every American family depends on.
“As negotiations continue, one principle must remain clear—supporting farmers is essential to protecting our nation’s food supply.”
