Perkins named Texas Farm Bureau’s 2013 Outstanding Teacher
SAN ANTONIO, Texas—Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) has honored Brenda Perkins, a pre-kindergarten teacher at Ramirez-Burks Elementary in Cotulla, with its 2013 Agriculture in the Classroom Outstanding Teacher award. Perkins received the award during TFB’s 80th Annual Meeting.
Nominated by La Salle County Farm Bureau, Perkins received the award for her exceptional work to incorporate agriculture into her classroom lesson plans and activities.
“Agriculture is an outstanding teaching tool, and it’s never too early to start incorporating it in the classroom,” said TFB President Kenneth Dierschke. “Ms. Perkins has done an excellent job of adding agricultural concepts in the curriculum for her students, using videos and hands-on activities in the classroom. We appreciate her efforts.”
Perkins is a graduate of Western Governors University and has been teaching for six years. Her students participate in agriculture-related hands-on activities, including candling and hatching chicken eggs.
In recognition of her accomplishment, Perkins will receive a $300 cash award, as well as reimbursed expenses to attend the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference June 23-27, 2014, in Hershey, Pa. The nominating county Farm Bureau also will receive a $300 cash award.
