Farm Bureau Feeding Texas program has statewide impact
(WACO, Texas)—Through the Farm Bureau Feeding Texas Co-op Contribution Program, Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) and county Farm Bureaus donated $350,648 to feed families in local communities.
The program, established by TFB in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, paired food banks and other food-relief entities with local restaurants and caterers. TFB matched a county Farm Bureau donation of up to $1,000 for any food-related project during the pandemic.
“Since March, food banks and other food-relief entities have seen a sharp increase in the number of requests for help,” TFB President Russell Boening said. “Texas Farm Bureau and county Farm Bureaus were ready to assist these food banks, community organizations, restaurants and others to help those in need.”
A total of 139 county Farm Bureaus participated in the program, donating $239,454 directly to local food-relief organizations. TFB matched $111,194, increasing the impact of the statewide program.
“This was a joint effort between the state organization and county Farm Bureaus to help those who are in need of food, as well as those who provide that food, while also helping keep businesses operating in the unprecedented times that many are facing during this global pandemic,” Boening said.
Several county Farm Bureaus made donations to Meals on Wheels, food pantries and the Salvation Army, among other community groups.
“There are numerous families across the state who rely on the services these food-relief entities provide, and we’re proud to have worked with our county Farm Bureaus to help Texans and lend a hand during these trying times,” Boening said. “In Texas and in agriculture, we help each other. It’s just what we do.”
