(ROUND ROCK, Texas)—One teacher’s efforts to plant seeds of knowledge about agriculture has earned her recognition from the state’s largest general farm and ranch organization.

Emily Williams is Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) 2024 Agriculture in the Classroom Outstanding Teacher Award winner. Williams was recognized during TFB’s 91st annual meeting Dec. 7 in Round Rock.

Williams teaches third grade math at Bess Brannen Elementary in Lake Jackson.

She incorporates agriculture in fun and exciting ways for her students.

Her passion for bringing agriculture in the classroom started with the Adopt a Cow program from Discovery Dairy. From there, her interest in agriculture grew.

Williams works closely with Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau and implements TFB’s Farm From School program and Ag on the Go trailer in her classroom, as well as participates in Ag Literacy Week activities.

“Emily is a great example of the difference a teacher can make in a student’s life,” TFB President Russell Boening said. “Through creative, hands-on lesson plans and classroom activities, Emily sparks interest and passion for agriculture in her students. We’re proud to recognize her agricultural education efforts in the classroom.”

She was nominated for the award by Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau.

“Mrs. Williams’ dedication to exposing her students and her school to agriculture is commendable. She is constantly looking for new ways to incorporate agricultural concepts into her classroom and shares these experiences with other classes in her school,” Brazoria-Galveston CFB President Charles LeCompte said in the nomination letter. “Mrs. Williams’ enthusiasm is contagious, and you can definitely feel her excitement and passion when you listen to her talk about her classroom. We have enjoyed working with her over the last few years and look forward to continuing our partnership with her in the future.”

Williams earned a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University. She has been teaching for 13 years, with eight years at Bess Brannen Elementary.

In recognition of her accomplishment, Williams will receive a $600 cash award, as well as an expense-paid trip to attend the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference next summer. Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau also will receive a $400 cash award for this nomination.

In addition, Williams will be nominated for the National Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture award.
