Statement by Texas Farm Bureau President Russell W. Boening
“In the coming weeks, voters across Texas will decide the fate of seven proposed amendments to our state’s constitution that could affect our lives and livelihoods for years to come.
Texas Farm Bureau supports three of those amendments on behalf of our over 500,000 member families.
Proposition 1 increases the Texas Homestead Exemption for school district property taxes from $15,000 to $25,000. That measure could be helpful come tax time.
Proposition 6 guarantees the right to hunt or fish for Texans both now and in the future. By placing this in our state constitution, we are ensuring that right and tradition that has been handed down from generation to generation across our state.
Proposition 7 is designed to improve our highways. It calls for the transfer of some funds from sales and use taxes for the State Highway Fund as well as a percentage of vehicle sales tax once specific thresholds are met.
Early voting is underway now and will continue through the end of the month. Whether you cast your ballot now or on Election Day, Nov. 3, be sure to exercise your right to vote.
Thank you for your consideration of these constitutional amendments that are very important to agriculture and all of Texas.”
