Texas Farm Bureau annual meeting set for Dec. 7-9

Texas Farm Bureau annual meeting set for Dec. 7-9

Texas farmers and ranchers will address organizational policy issues at the 86th annual meeting of Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Dec. 7-9 in San Antonio.

Members from the state’s 205 county Farm Bureaus will work together to craft policy positions and prepare for the challenges agriculture faces.

“Agriculture has a bright future, but there are still many challenges and issues that need to be addressed,” TFB President Russell Boening said. “Our policy discussions will look at ways to strengthen agriculture in our state and nation. We want to make sure agriculture stays sustainable and profitable, ensuring we have a nutritious food and fiber supply.”

About 1,000 farmers and ranchers are expected in San Antonio during the meeting to discuss the latest agricultural issues, recognize successes from the past year and evaluate the organization’s policies.

The meeting will begin Dec. 7 at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter with registration at 10 a.m. Saturday’s events include TFB member benefits and services exhibits, County Activities of Excellence displays, Excellence in Agriculture presentations and the Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Discussion Meet.

The Discussion Meet preliminary round will begin at 10 a.m. The final round is set for 4 p.m. The three Excellence in Agriculture finalists will each give a presentation, beginning at 2 p.m.

The meeting will continue Sunday, Dec. 8, with a devotional, followed by membership recognition awards and Pioneer Award presentations.

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn will also address TFB members during the opening session.

Sunday afternoon will feature TFB President Russell Boening’s address. The 2019 Outstanding YF&R and Excellence in Agriculture award winners will be named, and retiring TFB state directors will be recognized.

The TFB Annual Meeting will conclude Monday, Dec. 9, with the organization’s annual business session.

A delegate luncheon and YF&R Live Auction will be held following the business session. The money raised during the live auction benefits TFB’s scholarship program.

Jane Jenkins Herlong will be the keynote speaker during the luncheon. The former Miss South Carolina is a global, award-winning hall of fame speaker and best-selling author.
