Texas Farm Bureau honors 2024 media award winner

(ROUND ROCK, Texas)—One media member earned recognition from Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) for telling the story of Texas farmers and ranchers and highlighting the issues rural communities face.

Each year, superior agricultural journalism is recognized by the largest general farm and ranch organization in Texas. This year, an award was given in one category: Excellence in Journalism for markets over 50,000.

“The farm bill, weather conditions and inflation have kept agriculture in the news,” TFB President Russell Boening said. “We are grateful for the dedication of news reporters and broadcasters who work diligently year-round to share the story of Texas agriculture and the stories of farmers and ranchers.”

Excellence in Journalism – Markets over 50,000

Corey Olson is an anchor, reporter and host for NewsRadio 740 KTRH in Houston.

He has in recent months interviewed and aired stories featuring farmers, ranchers and TFB representatives discussing regulatory issues, high input costs and weather.

Olson was nominated by Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau for his efforts to share news and stories about Texas agriculture.

“Corey does an excellent job of reporting relevant, ag-related content on his radio show,” Charles LeCompte, Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau president, said. “He understands the importance of keeping listeners in an urban community informed on how policy developments impact farmers, ranchers and agricultural as a whole. He’s ensuring his audience gains a well-rounded perspective on agriculture."

Olson has worked in radio broadcasting for more than 20 years and has been a news anchor for NewsRadio 740 KTRH since 2012.

“We understand the importance of Texas farmers and ranchers to our economy and to our life all over the state,” Olson said. “Anyone who goes to the grocery store, drinks milk, eats meat, gets produce or even drives a truck or helps produce the supplies used in farming and ranching knows how important the farming and ranching industry is to our state, and that's why we think it's important to tell these stories.”
