Texas Farm Bureau honors Aguirre-Herrera for excellence in journalism

SAN ANTONIO, Texas—Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) has honored Cindy Aguirre-Herrera, news director with KWED Radio and Seguin Daily News, with its 2013 Excellence in Journalism award for outstanding coverage of Texas agricultural issues. Aguirre-Herrera received the award during TFB’s 80th Annual Meeting Dec. 8 in San Antonio.

The KWED Radio and Seguin Daily News serves Guadalupe and surrounding counties. The Guadalupe County Farm Bureau (CFB) board of directors nominated Aguirre-Herrera for the award in the category for publications distributed to markets under 50,000 in population.

“She has placed importance on covering agriculture for the radio and newspaper,” the county board said. “Cindy has covered our local affairs to ensure the position of Texas Farm Bureau and agriculture stays in the public eye.”

Guadalupe CFB also noted that for years Aguirre-Herrera has worked with the organization to promote its upcoming events by recording public service announcements and ensuring the community is aware of Farm Bureau’s activities.

“Cindy has also promoted our Food Connection Week events, formerly known as Food Check-Out Week. With her help, we’ve grown the event to include individuals from Seguin and the surrounding areas,” the nomination added.
