Texas Farm Bureau honors Madewell for excellence in journalism

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas)—Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) honored Mary Madewell, staff reporter for The Paris News, with its 2018 Excellence in Journalism award for outstanding coverage of Texas agricultural issues. Madewell received the award during TFB’s 85th Annual Meeting Dec. 2 in Corpus Christi.

Lamar County Farm Bureau nominated Madewell for the award in the category market of under 50,000 in population.

“Being personally involved with agriculture, she is well aware of the challenges facing our rural communities,” the nomination stated. “She has extensively covered state and federal politicians and farm programs.”

Madewell also is committed to telling the stories of local farmers and youth involved in agriculture.

“For the past 20 years, we have had the privilege of Mary reporting for The Paris News,” the nomination stated. “She covers county agricultural Farm Bureau functions, such as Food Connection Week, junior livestock shows and the Youth Leadership Conference.”
