Texas Farm Bureau honors Martin for excellence in journalism

(FRISCO, Texas)—Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) honored Michelle Martin, owner and editor of Ag Mag, with its 2017 Excellence in Agriculture Journalism award for outstanding coverage of Texas agricultural issues. Martin received the award during TFB’s 84th Annual Meeting Dec. 3 in Frisco.

Ag Mag is a bi-monthly publication with print and online subscriptions covering agriculture in South Texas. The Hidalgo County Farm Bureau board of directors nominated Martin for the award.

“Michelle has a heart for agriculture, which is evident in her publication,” the nomination stated. “A key focus of every issue is the youth involved in agriculture through 4-H, FFA or their family farms. Ag Mag is a tremendous tool helping to promote agriculture in the community.”

The nominating county also noted Martin’s success in growing Ag Mag from 2,000 printed copies to 10,000, while also growing an online subscription of 10,000 emails, over a four-county region in South Texas. The publication has also grown from 24 pages to 80 pages since it was first published in 2014.

“There is no better reason to award Michelle this honor than for her enthusiastic and effective means of advocating for agriculture among our youth—our agricultural leaders of tomorrow,” the nomination stated.
