Texas Farm Bureau honors McDonald for excellence in journalism

(FRISCO, Texas)—Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) honored the late Bobby McDonald, a writer and blogger for Front Porch News, with its 2017 Excellence in Journalism award for outstanding coverage of Texas agricultural issues.

His mother, Joyce McDonald, accepted the award on his behalf during TFB’s 84th Annual Meeting Dec. 3 in Frisco.

Front Porch News serves the Hopkins and Rains County communities, covering farm and ranch events in the area. The Hopkins-Rains County Farm Bureau board of directors nominated McDonald for the award in the category market of under 50,000 in population.

“Since Bobby McDonald was a child, he has been involved in the farm and ranch community—from FFA to the Farm Bureau board of directors,” the nomination stated. “His bouncing energy kept all of the community informed about farming and ranching and why it is important to the community.”

The nominating county also noted McDonald’s impact on the youth of Hopkins and Rains counties.

“Many of our youth have grown up watching and listening to the Front Porch News,” the nomination stated. “Bobby and the Front Porch News media center was the face of our community.”
