Texas Farm Bureau pleased with new agreement ensuring Mexico water deliveries

Texas Farm Bureau pleased with new agreement ensuring Mexico water deliveries

The following statement may be attributed to Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening following today’s announcement of a new U.S. agreement with Mexico that ensures Mexico’s delivery of water to the Rio Grande Valley under the 1944 Water Treaty.

“Texas Farm Bureau is pleased the United States and Mexico have come to an agreement to ensure Mexico’s compliance with the 1944 Water Treaty.

“Texas farmers and ranchers in the Rio Grande Valley are grateful Mexico is finally being held accountable for its non-compliance.

“Texas Farm Bureau greatly appreciates the leadership efforts of President Trump, Secretary Rubio, Secretary Rollins and Deputy Secretary Landau for forging this new agreement.

“We appreciate the steadfast leadership of U.S. Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz and U.S. Reps. Henry Cuellar, Vicente Gonzalez, Tony Gonzales and Monica De La Cruz.

“The immediate deliveries of water and the deliveries of water in the next six months will be critical for farmers and ranchers who have long suffered because of Mexico’s non-compliance.

“The recovery of Rio Grande Valley agriculture will take time after years of hardship. Mexico must make good on its new promise to deliver water.”
