TFB President Russell Boening statement on House failure to pass farm bill

TFB President Russell Boening statement on House failure to pass farm bill

"We are extremely disappointed in the farm bill vote today. The U.S. House of Representatives failed to pass the 2018 Farm Bill, which only hurts all Americans.

"Farmers and ranchers need a safety net and the certainty that a farm bill brings. Net farm income has dropped 50 percent in the last four years, and rural America is struggling. The 2018 Farm Bill would have provided farmers and ranchers with resources to withstand sharp declines in farm income and prices.

"We appreciate the members who supported the 2018 Farm Bill, and their ‘yes’ votes show they understand the importance of an agricultural safety net for the food security of our nation.

"It is of upmost importance that a farm bill is passed before the current legislation expires on Sept. 30."

The above statement may be attributed to Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening.
