YOUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE
Agriculture grows our future
By Gary Joiner

When we think about agriculture, food, fiber and fuel come to mind. And often we don’t consider anything beyond the seed and the soil.
But we should.
Because agriculture touches all aspects of our daily lives. It’s the foundation of our economy—growing jobs for people across the nation and around the world.
Less than 2 percent of the population actively farms and ranches, but millions of folks have jobs because of that 2 percent.
When a farmer’s crop leaves the field, it creates a diverse set of jobs. From processing plants to grocery store workers and retail stores to educators and communication experts, agriculture plays a part in strengthening the foundation of our nation.
Resilience, determination and innovation. Those are qualities found in agriculture and ones that will continue to move our nation forward.
It’s a lifestyle fit for few, but agriculture does more than just provide the necessities. Agriculture grows communities, towns and cities. It brings people together. And it will secure our future.
The preceding commentary is brought to you by Texas Farm Bureau, the “Voice of Texas Agriculture.” Called “Your Texas Agriculture Minute,” TFB will issue thought-provoking editorials each week—via print and audio—to spark understanding of agriculture in the Lone Star State and its impact on each and every Texan.
