YOUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE

YOUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE

The TPP and Texas

By Gene Hall

Jobs. Opportunity. And a stronger Texas economy.

Trade is essential for that, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is an important part. Free trade is a gift to any economy. For it to work it must be a two-way street. Free trade is elusive. Fair trade is essential.

By opening the doors to trade in Pacific Rim countries, there’s more demand for crops, Texas-grown beef, rice and wheat.

More demand means more business. And growing business mean more jobs.

That means a lot for Texas.

Add all this together, and you’ve got a stronger economy.

A stronger economy means a stronger Texas.

While there are things to fix in this trade deal, things looks very good.

We’ll work to see our concerns are met. Our needs addressed. And our hope for free trade realized.

Let’s boost demand. Strengthen our economy. And bless our Lone Star State.

The preceding commentary is brought to you by Texas Farm Bureau, the “Voice of Texas Agriculture.” Called “Your Texas Agriculture Minute,” TFB will issue thought-provoking editorials each week—via print and audio—to spark understanding of agriculture in the Lone Star State and its impact on each and every Texan.

You may read this week’s editorial above or listen to the audio version.
